Staff Changes in 2003
We are very pleased to announce that John Wolf has been made a partner in the firm. John specialises in commercial and corporate law and in particular banking, finance, hedge and investment funds, unit trusts, structured finance and trusts. Existing partner, Shaun McCann has also been granted Caymanian status by the Governor in Council and we congratulate him on that honour.
We are also pleased to announce that Robert Searle, Melanie Crinis and Martin Jones have joined the firm. Before joining Campbells, Robert worked for leading London law firm S.J. Berwin, recognised as a leading European law firm in the area of investment funds. Whilst at S.J. Berwin, Robert was involved in over US$3.2 billion worth of investment fund and corporate finance transactions. He specialises in all aspects of investment funds, joint ventures, capital markets and corporate law. He has been engaged by large institutions, fund managers, investors, other participants and professional advisers on many varieties of investment funds and special purpose vehicles, along with other matters of corporate law.
Melanie worked for the leading London insurance litigation firm, Davies Arnold Cooper before coming to the Cayman Islands. Melanie has extensive experience dealing with insolvencies and has worked closely with insolvency practitioners advising on the recovery of assets and other issues and disputes arising during the course of liquidations and receiverships. She has also been involved in a number of actions against directors for breaches of fiduciary duty, insolvent trading and fraud. Melanie also has extensive insurance experience including acting for a number of insurers in high value policy disputes as well as advising captive insurers. Most recently, Melanie was involved in running a large US$97 million, multi party commercial and insurance dispute arising out of the dissolution/insolvency of Railtrack in the UK and the problems that the structure of the privatisation of the rail industry had on the rail network.
Martin qualified as a solicitor in the UK in 1999, having trained at well known London law firm Masons. Martin practiced at Masons until December 2000, when he joined Arnander Irvine and Zietman, a niche litigation practice in the City of London. Arnander Irvine and Zietman subsequently merged with the London litigation practice of the US law firm, Shook Hardy and Bacon. Immediately prior to joining Campbells in September 2003, Martin practiced in the London office of US firm, Howrey Simon Arnold and White. Martin specializes in international commercial and financial litigation, including cross-border fraud claims, asset tracing, contract and tort disputes and multi-jurisdictional insolvency matters.
Caymanian law school graduate Lisa Parsons started her training contract in July 2003 and will be due to qualify as an attorney in 2005, she is a new and valuable member of the firm.
Simon Stephens, a partner with Campbells for 8 years, retired earlier this year from the partnership. He remains a consultant with the firm until the end of 2003. We thank him for his contribution to the firm and wish him a happy retirement.
Lee Freeman also left the firm after assisting in the successful conclusion of a major criminal case involving Euro Bank, which he was hired to work on and we wish him the very best for the future.
