In conjunction with Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP, Deloitte & Touche, New York and Cayman, UBS Funds Services (Cayman) Ltd and 3-4 South Square, Gray's Inn, London, Campbells hosted a major one day conference covering risk management and potential liabilities of directors, trustees and administrators in relation to international investment structures. The conference was chaired by Alistair Walters and speakers include partners, Ross McDonough and John Wolf and associates Robert Searle and Melanie Crinis. February 20th 2004, Cayman Islands – Hot Topics for Cayman Investment Funds
Building on the success of the conference held in October 2003, Campbells will be hosting another Cayman investment fund conference in February 2004. Speakers will include representatives of Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP, Deloitte, Bank Austria Cayman Islands Ltd, Cayman Financial Network Ltd, Cayman Islands Monetary Authority and SunGard.
The conference will cover:
- Litigation and regulatory developments - SEC, FSA – best practice, joint Federal and US State enforcement actions and investigations, market timing, late trading, AML – implications for offshore hedge funds and investors.
- Due diligence on hedge funds by investors, administrators, directors, auditors – trends in fund structures, investments and products - what to look out for, questions to ask and how to get answers.
- Offering memoranda and fund agreements – important issues to check and jargon explained - key clauses for risk management.
- Pricing of illiquid investments/derivatives, investments in funds of funds and independent checking.
- Interpreting pricing and leverage data – recognizing red flags for fund instability and best practice systems to manage risk - role and liability of auditors in fund structures.
- Practical issues for independent directors and administrators in fund structures.

Appointments
We are pleased to welcome Martha Rankin to the firm as a trainee paralegal, joining our busy litigation team. Martha is in the final year of her law degree and will take her professional practice course next year.

Retirement
Simon Stephens, a partner with Campbells for 8 years, retired earlier this year from the partnership. He remained a consultant with the firm until the 19th December 2003. We thank him for his contribution to the firm and wish him a happy retirement. Simon's corporate and commercial practice and in particular his area of specialism in marine and aviation work will be continued by the corporate and commercial department lead by John Broadbent and John Wolf.
